Damn you MAS

I need to rant!

Last Tuesday, UNSW released the final exam timetables for fellow undergraduates. Being the poor student that I am, I cleverly booked flight tickets to go back home during the summer holidays to take advantage of the MAS discounts. Hence, due to my bad luck and also due to being horribly wrong in predicting UNSW's exam timetable, my flight happened to be ONE day before my last paper. Just ONE BLOODY DAY.

Consequently begin a bad day for me last Tuesday. Right after I saw my final timetable, I called MAS international call center number, which is actually a KL number. I was put on hold for 5 minutes, not once, not twice but three times! Imagine my bill increasing one dollar for each minute - hence, the entire call causing me a walloping AUD15. Well, if it settled the problem, that would not matter. Instead the line got cut off after 15 minutes and I DID NOT get to change my flight ticket. In conclusion, wasted my 15 dollars for nothing, NOTHING!

Being a good person, I called them again but due to bad Sydney whether and lousy 3 mobile connection, I got disconnected after a few seconds. Frustrated, I called up my mom to settle the problem for me which with the "smart" brain I have, I should have thought of earlier.

So mom settled everything and the cost to change my ticket came up to AUD168 AT THAT TIME. I emphasize AT THAT TIME. The funny thing is that when I booked the ticket, there was no indication of any dollar figure for penalties, I tried searching online to find how much it would cost me to change flights and some people said it ranged around AUD20 to AUD50. Thinking it was a fair deal at that time, I stupidly booked it. Well, now I know the truth, I think MAS changes their "penalty" prices very frequently and hence will charge unknowing customers any value that they feel like charging on that day, and as luck would have it I kena AUD100 for penalty (unreasonable) and AUD68 for difference in ticket prices (which I thought was acceptable because they need to compensate for the loss in sales).

Later at night, on that same Tuesday I wrote a complaint letter to MAS indicating my dissatisfaction for their incomplete disclosure on penalty prices and also their very "prompt" call center. But since then, I have heard no reply at all from them.

Today after 1 week since all that drama, I checked my bank account to see if they have debited my money for the MAS penalty payments. It seems that the price is NOT AUD168 but instead inflated up to AUD189 there was also some transaction fee charged on top of that for AUD5. Well, I know that AUD has dropped significantly from last week where it still stood at around AUD0.90/USD but do I have to get penalized for their slow reflex to my call? I called them on that day, they should put the transaction through on that day itself and charged me on that day. Why do they have to wait until the foreign exchange rate drop? I'm not sure if I'm just having pure bad luck or is this some kind of fishy scheme of FOREX speculation by MAS.

Seriously, they should practice better disclosure practices and I am one really DISSATISFIED customer.
