Visit Penang 2009 (Part 4)
Written at Friday, February 13, 2009 | back to top

Sorry for taking such a long break from blogging. I was away at Singapore, for yet another holiday. I will try my best to blog about it when I have the time, but I don't guarantee that I am able to do so for the coming weeks. Cos I'm going back to Sydney soon. So sad. :-(

This time, I'll be sharing my experiences about Penang Hill, Botanical Garden and a secluded beach side at Tanjung Assam.

We left early in the morning at 9 o'clock but went to get breakfast first at a shop near by my aunt's place. Then, we went to a temple nearby Bukit Bendera a.k.a Penang Hill to "visit" my great grandmother's "apartment" (she was cremated so her grave is actually a small box kind of thing). So after visiting the temple, it was close to 11.00 a.m. when we reach the ticketing booth for the tram up the hill.

The next tram was going to arrive at 11.30, so we had to wait for a while. After around 10-15 mins wait, the tram finally arrive. It was during peak hour so we had to stand up for half the ride before changing tams mid-way up the hill. The tram tracks were actually very steep but too bad it doesn't show in the pictures.

After an exiting but uncomfortable journey, we reach the top only to find nothing much to see. This is due to some kind of haze or fog thing that was hovering over the whole island. We could barely make out Penang bridge from the top although it would be very obvious on a clear day.

The air up the hill was a tad cooler than the bottom but it was still hot. There was a restaurant, a post office, a small food court with several stalls, a mosque, a Indian temple and some other small landmarks. It was somewhat of a disappointment for me when I reached the top.

Do you remember this vending machine?

The cup would actually pop down and the drink will be poured out from the nozzle.
Remember it now? So "old-school" right?

A restaurant at Strawberry Hills (there's actually 5 hills that makes out Bukit Bendera)
Legend has it that a tree in this restaurant is actually haunted.

As there was nothing much to do, we travelled down at 1 p.m. and headed to our next destination.
While travelling down, we got to get a picture for the tram which was going up.

My mom drove the car towards her childhood town and we reached a beach that my family nickname "jungle seaside" because it is quite hidden and unknown to tourists. Hence, the water was less polluted and the seaside has no rubbish.

The roti man in Penang actually looks like it has a small cupboard fixed on the bike. Really different from KL! - Snapped this pic when I was on the way to the seaside.

The next place we went to was Botanic Gardens. Not much to see here except for monkeys and some greens. We didn't have much time too cos we needed to fetch my dad from work. So we just hurried through the some parts of the garden and snapped some photos.

To end the day, my dad, mom and me went to Chowrasta Market to get some pickled fruits, Tambun biscuits and for some Chendol.
