Yup... At last there's something to blog about. I went to the Royal Easter show last Monday, 13th April. And since morning I was having a bad luck streak. I went to the bank to get money cos I didn't have enough and guess what? The bank actually had problems with the cash dispensing mechanism. I was lucky enough to not get debited for the amount I "withdrew". Gosh, I was so scared I lost money for no reason.
Anyway, I went to the bus stop and had to wait a loooooonnnnnggggg time for the bus to arrive. And it started to drizzle a bit but that didn't dampen my spirit. My mom thought me to use the "secret" which is: have positive thoughts and your thoughts will come true. So, I convinced myself that the day will be "mostly cloudy" like what the weather forecast said.
Finally I reached Central station and met up with Siew Ping and Seiryu. They already reached before me. Luckily Fish was later than me... Haha, so I wasn't the latest! Surprisingly, Seiryu wore a skirt! I think it's the first time I saw her wearing a skirt in Sydney, or is it ever?
So we took the lousy train to Olympic Park (the place where the Easter Show is held) at around 1 p.m.. And we thought we had ample time to walk around as the weather was nice. Cloudy like the weather forecast said (emphasis added).
The first picture we took at the Royal Show. It's actually the entrance AND exit.
We're not so keen on going back so early ok.
The first stop was to the place where they had farm birds. All sorts of chickens, duck, turkeys.. etc etc. There were sooooooo many. I mean it looks kinda scary cos all the while I was thinking about bird flu... I think there were around 100-200 birds in the enclosed area.
Me and the chooks
Afro-haired chicken. Cool huh?
There's blue, purple, yellow and black. Actually, there's green too..
But it's not in this picture
Hatching chicks.. I didn't have the patience to wait for them
to hatch but Seiryu and Fish did
Next stop was the sheep and pig area. Although the smell was overwhelming, the sheep were very cute... And their fur so soft... just like a carpet. Haha. I missed the sheep sheering show though. What a shame.
Sheepy Sheeps. Hides when I want to capture a picture with it.
I even got to witness a pig aution. Quite funny. People are willing to pay up to $1000 for a piggy. I wonder why... If it's to eat, wont it be cheaper just buying it in the butcher? The autioner was speaking so quickly, I could only catch a few words... And just with a nod and wave, the pigs were sold!!! Everything happened so quickly... even before I could process what was happening. Haha, talk about a slow RAM.
For your knowledge. So next time some one calls
u a sucker, you know what it means. Haha
A very fat and lazy pig. I think it can make 20 people's dinner.
Suckers! Well, I'm just stating the facts.
We went to see the dairy farmer's section next where they were milking the cows. It's quite intriguing to me. They used machines to squeeze the milk from the cow's udder. Really fascinating. Too bad I didn't get to milk the cow first hand. From what I remembered, last year they had a chance to do that... Talk about having bad luck. Everything also cannot!!!
Incorporated with the dairy farmer's milking barn, there's this animal nursery for baby animals. They allow you to touch and feed the animals roaming around. Yes, they let the go FREE and walk and sit beside you in the area. I even saw a man carrying a goat in his arms (even though you are not allowed to do so)! Poor goat, it must be traumatized.
Failed camworing attempt with the sheep. It looks happy though.
Llama
Ducklings!
Happy goat getting all the attention from the girl. The food for them costs a dollar,
so of course I didn't buy it. A waste of money.
After the nursery, it started to rain! My god... It rained and rained continuously until late at night. I was so dis hearted... Stupid weather forecast... Gave me false hope only. So never mind, umbrellas up, we headed towards some kind of dog show-house thingy. There were huge dogs on display. I mean extremely huge dogs... I don't know whether you guys can see it in the pictures, but they are very big.
Giant furry dogs. They come in white with brown spots and pure black.
Scary looking creatures.
Since the dog place was so crowded we quickly made an escape from the stuffiness and headed to the yard-dog show. But on the way we stopped by the art's centre just for a stamp (which I will explain later on). So we missed half of the show, because of the stamp that I wanted so much, sorry sorry! I thought I could quickly go in and go out... But the place seemed to be so complicated. The show was very cute. It gave us an idea of how the farmers used dogs to herd sheep. Too bad I didn't take any videos for this cos it was raining very heavily at that time and so many people were hurdled together.
After that, we continued to the flower garden where there were many fake-looking real flowers on display. I mean they really look damn fake. Like as if made from paper.
Do they look like those Chinese lanterns that we fold and put up during CNY? Or is it just me?
Next stop was the Woolworth's exhibition area. They arranged fruits to look like particular formations. It was awesome. And I tried some free food samples too! Haha, you know me, I can't resist free FOOD samples. Any samples actually... I'm just a cheapskate. What to do.. :-P
On completion of the fruits display, we wanted to go to the "racing and diving pig show" but we ended up not able to fit inside the small area and was shoo-ed away by the caretaker. So sad... We got drenched for nothing. The rain was getting harder and harder so Siew Ping and I decided to go to the Food Farm (a place where they display our sources of food) to get our free gift!
Just horsing around with the cow
After lepak-ing at the food farm, we just went to have a seat at some cattle range thingy which had nothing else but shade from the rain. And after the rain cleared up a bit, we went to have our dinner.
The coffee cups even had the event printed on it
Lagsania for dinner
And once again, we had to queue for seats in the NAB arena to see the "closing ceremony" of the show. They had a play called "true blue" which talks about a dog getting lost and getting found again. They also had some kind of motor show which was partly canceled due to the rain. And last but not least, the fireworks. Although it was pouring, the fireworks still went on... Haha, so wasn't that disappointed. But because of the rain, we missed so many things... I even got blocked by the roof of the stadium from the full view of the fireworks. Damn stupid lo... Some more half of the stadium not covered by the roof, so people have to squeeze into the shaded part and all crammed together like sardines. Very pissed off at that time.
Ok, now to explain the stamps thingy I mentioned earlier. Siew Ping and I had this thingy called the Passport to the easter show and upon collecting all the stamps from each station in the park, we get to receive a free gift at the end of the day. Got it?
My easter show passport
My kiddy gift. Well, a free gift is a free gift. Haha, I'm still a child at heart.
There's a chocolate flavoures traw, a cow key chain and a children's activity book. :-P
The chocolate straw
Mmmmm.. converts plain milk to chocolate milk in just seconds. Hehe.
So that's all I have for you today. Hope this blog entry kept you entertained for a bit since my lame entries last few weeks.
